Accomplishments

What has the Main Street Organization accomplished in the past several years?

From July 2005 to June 2006, 18 MainStreet communities spawned 126 new businesses, fostered 171 building rehabilitations, generated $12,438,638 in public reinvestment, and gave rise to 446 new jobs in NM

$3.3 million public dollars invested in the downtown district of Clovis since 2002

$945,300 private dollars invested in the downtown district of Clovis since 2002

Published Design Guidelines for the downtown district

Publish/distribute Quarterly Newsletter to all members and downtown merchants

Sponsor/conduct nationally renowned speakers, workshops and educational opportunities for downtown merchants

Offer/fund a Façade Improvement Grant (funds attained from private donation)

Successful Wine and Cheese Gala – 6 years

Participation in the following Promotion Events:

Arts Festival/Ethnic Fair – 6 years

Christmas Parade – 2 years

Shop Clovis Retail Promotion – new in 2006

Awards Earned: Clovis MainStreet has received numerous awards including the 2006 – NMMS Excellence in Fundraising and NMMS Excellence in Urban Design and Planning Awards.

Worked with Sites Southwest to develop a Master Streetscape Plan for Main Street and two blocks of Hwy 60/84. Focus has also be placed on connection with the Historic Railroad District, which includes a permanent Public/Farmer’s Market.

Partnered with Sites Southwest and the City of Clovis to establish a Metropolitan Redevelopment Area

Grants received:

  • $4,299 in 2005 and $4,469 in 2006 from New Mexico Arts to fund cultural entertainment for the downtown Ethnic Fair artists' contracts.
  • $575 from Keep New Mexico Beautiful, Inc. to renovate downtown pocket park.
  • $1,000 from Bank of America Foundation to help hire an architect for redevelopment of historic Mesa Theater.
  • $2,100 in 2005 and $7,000 in 2006 from NM EDD Cooperative Advertising Program for development of marketing materials and tools.
  • $200,000 from MainStreet Construction Grant to assist in the construction of a gateway into downtown.
  • $250,000 in Capital Outlay funds from the state of New Mexico for the design and construction of downtown gateway, signage, and other beautification elements.
Other Funding Sources:
  • $25,000 annually from the City of Clovis
  • $2,000 annually from Curry County
  • $12,000 annually from members
Community Donations:
  • Property on Prince Street-sold to create a fund for facade grants
  • 400 Mitchell St.-donated to the City of Clovis
Established a Facade Improvement Matching Grant Program for businesses and residents in the downtown district.

Created and Published Design Guidelines-The guidelines document aspects of the downtown that we value and strive to conserve while embracing changes that bring positive community economic opportunities.

Developed and published unique marketing materials for business recruitment, corporate campaigns, and program awareness building.

Plan and implement downtown events and promotions such as the Wine and Cheese Gala, Christmas Parade, and Annual Sidewalk Sale that bring people into the downtown district.

Publish a quarterly newsletter that is distributed to members and downtown businesses.
